Earlier on Monday, we covered reports from Brazil which said Arsenal scouted Fluminense midfielder André in the Copa Libertadores final.

It was claimed that many clubs watched the player in action against Boca Juniors, and the Gunners are set to try his signing in the January transfer window.

It turns out that as Lance feature a fresh story explaining the clubs who want André, Arsenal are nearly dismissed from this race.

First of all, they confirm that the Gunners had a representative at the Maracanã Stadium and saw the midfielder in action.

However, they also claim that Arsenal never made a strong move for André and they’re actually not interested in signing a player for his position at this moment, especially because of all the investment made on taking Declan Rice from West Ham.

So even though the likes of Fulham, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham are all believed to be keen on André, the Gunners do not sound like such strong contenders.

Maybe Arsenal had other targets on the pitch, as both Boca Juniors and Fluminense have other young talents watched by European sides.
