Rayan Cherki was one of multiple players to arrive at Manchester City in the summer window.
Manchester City signed the France international from Lyon. The French club have since confirmed they agreed to sell him for €36.5m plus €6m bonuses. Lyon will also receive 15% of profit from his future sale.
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has spone to Foot Mercato, and the majority of the interview was focusing on his former club.
The 51-year-old Frenchman spent six years with Arsenal, winning two titles. He was a key part of their Invincibles during the 2003/04 season.
Foot Mercato asked Pires if any French to Premier League transfer caught his attention this summer.
He named Cherki’s move to the Etihad and explained he was shocked to find out the fee paid by Manchester City.
“The good thing is that French players are always attractive to English clubs. So, that’s good news. I think I have a slight preference for Rayan Cherki, because I like the player, because technically, he’s very, very strong,” he said.
“What surprised me is the price he was sold for by Lyon or paid by City.
“But I think he has the game to adapt to Man City, and also to the Premier League. Because technically, I really like what he does and what he offers on the pitch, even if the Premier League is difficult.”
Cherki, who has one goal from two games for Manchester City, picked up an injury at the end of August and is currently on the sidelines.
