The Spanish media is again linking Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal.
This time, the report comes from Sport, who label the Gunners ‘favourites’ to land the Real Sociedad midfielder.
It’s said that Zubimendi is ‘one of the main objectives’ Arsenal have to strengthen their squad for next season, with Mikel Arteta asking for his signing.
The midfielder himself is said to be open to taking the ‘leap’ to the Premier League, with Sport claiming he’d ‘perfectly fit’ the Spanish coach’s tactics.
Zubimendi is protected by a €60m release clause, with Real Sociedad not willing to negotiate, and that could be actually good for Arsenal. That’s because Barcelona are also interested in the player, but can’t afford that amount, and that would leave an open path for the Gunners in this race.
This week, we had already seen the Italian media claiming the London side are ‘in pole position’ to sign the 24-year-old, despite the competition from Barcelona.
Arsenal’s interest in the player had already been reported by the Spanish press in January, and even though nothing happened in the winter window, it seems there are still good chances of a deal in the summer.
