Martin Odegaard wants to see what happens to him between now and the 31st of August before deciding on his future following his loan spell with Arsenal.
That’s according to AS, who say that there are still doubts at the Bernabeu over whether they want to keep him.
The newspaper explains that while Madrid maintain their confidence in him, it’s’ been six years since his arrival and the fact he can only play in one position is ‘detrimental’ to him.
He requires a very specific system and position to flourish, and that is something Carlo Ancelotti cannot guarantee him, with a recent poor display against Rangers only adding to the doubts.
They would sanction a permanent exit or a loan deal, although the latter is seen as ‘postponing the hot potato’ for another year.
That’s because it would neither generate the money that Madrid want, as it would bring in around €5m, nor the big leap in sporting terms either.
They’ve already used two loans to try and get the best out of him and enjoyed middling success, with his last at Arsenal neither a resounding success nor failure.
In terms of suitors, Arsenal are ‘attentive’ and could make a move if he becomes available again, although they are likely to face competition, particularly from AC Milan, who are in the market for a new number ten.
