Towards the end of last summer, Arsenal made a €20m bid for goalkeeper Joan García, but Espanyol turned it down and referred to his €30m release clause.

Last September, Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza indicated they could sell the 23-year-old in the future after rejecting the Gunners’ bid.

The Spanish stopper had insisted he wasn’t distracted by the failed move to Arsenal.

Fast forward to January and AS state Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t forgotten about the player. Despite their failed attempts to sign him after making an offer last summer, the north London club ‘maintain interest’ in García.

The goalkeeper kept two clean sheets and conceded 30 goals from 18 league games and has made the most saves [65] in La Liga this season.

AS explain there’s been a dip in his form in recent matches, but the player hasn’t stopped him attracting interest from elsewhere.  Arsenal are the only club to get a mention in the report and are still keen on signing him.

Espanyol have identified García as one of the candidates to help them make cash and this should please certainly Arsenal.

It’s likely that Arteta’s side are looking at him for the summer, when Neto’s loan deal at the Emirates will expire. Should that €20m offer be presented again then it may be enough, with Espanyol appearing to soften.
