Now that Sporting reached their objective of winning the Portuguese title, it’s time for the hunt for their players to get more serious.
As newspaper Jornal de Notícias writes about Viktor Gyokeres’ future, Arsenal are named as the main contenders for the signing.
The outlet writes that the Gunners sent scouts to nearly all Sporting games this season and are ‘very impressed’ with what the striker has shown.
It’s said it’s ‘almost certain’ that Gyokeres will end up leaving the Lions in the summer, and it now remains to be seen whether it’s Arsenal or another Premier League club who’ll win the race for him.
The striker joined Sporting on a €21m deal from Coventry City last year, and has 41 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances for the Lions so far.
He’s protected by a €100m release clause, and we shall soon get to know whether Arsenal would pay something close to that to get the signing done. Since the Lions will surely not be short of offers, the Gunners better make sure any bid will be enough to fight off others.
