Currently loaned to FC Utrecht with an option to buy, Schalke 04’s Can Bozdogan could end up staying in the Netherlands at the end of the season.
Whether he does remains to be seen, but that wouldn’t be enough for the 21-year-old, who told Sport Bild about his desire to play in the Premier League, with Arsenal, more specifically.
The midfielder boasts five assists and a goal in 18 league appearances for the Eredivisie side so far, but is currently out with a knee injury.
He made it clear he wouldn’t be against staying at Utrecht next season, even if he does have aspirations of playing for Arsenal down the line?
Why the Gunners in particular? He explained: “I would love to play in the Premier League. That’s my goal. I think Arsenal are cool. As a child, I was in London with my family. During a city tour, we visited the stadium. I was in the dressing room and very fascinated. Since then, I’ve really liked this club. I hope to eventually end up at a club like Arsenal.”
The 21-year-old is probably aware that a lot of work needs to be done before he achieves that goal, especially with Arsenal now fighting for titles under Mikel Arteta.
He does have one cap for Germany’s U20s to his name, as well as having appeared for all their age groups since the U15s (except the U19s).
The potential is clearly there, and he’ll need to keep capitalising on it to achieve his dream of donning that Arsenal shirt at some point in his career.
