Arsenal ‘have asked Jorge Mendes’ about Ansu Fati as his entourage opens the door to a possible departure from Barcelona.
That’s according to Cadena COPE, who say the Portuguese super-agent has not yet ‘received any formal offer’ for the player but that could change.
They explain that Fati has seen his role ‘diminished’ in recent months after a change of system from Xavi pushed him down the pecking order.
That has led to suggestions Fati could depart in the coming months, with several reports linking him to the Premier League.
A report today stated that Arsenal and Tottenham ‘have been interested’ in the player and his entourage have left the door open for a departure.
COPE back that up, stating that several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, ‘have called Jorge Mendes’ about his client.
They wanted to ‘ask him about the player’s situation’, although they have not made a formal offer for him at this moment in time.
They’ve been encouraged by his entourage, though, who are beginning to see that the player has not place in Xavi’s new system that is built upon four midfielders.
That ‘leaves the door open’ to a possible exit if his secondary role does not change, despite Fati’s desire always being to succeed in a Barcelona shirt.
The message currently being sent by both the club and the coaching staff is that the forward is not for sale. This has been repeated publicly by president Joan Laporta while Xavi has insisted he remains in his plans.
But the player is ‘crying out for more prominence’ and some teams know that. Arsenal are one of them and that is why Arsenal, as well as others, are calling Mendes about a possible move in the summer.
