Arsenal are keen on signing Athletic’s Nico Williams this summer, but the forward wants to join Barcelona, and his agent had a meeting with Deco last week to discuss a potential move to the Camp Nou.
At the weekend, Sport reported the Gunners are ready to pay the 22-year-old’s clause and offer a high salary to convince him to join them.
Monday’s edition of Sport provides the latest on Arsenal when covering his desire to join Barcelona.
The Spain international is aware Liverpool’s Luis Díaz is the priority target for the La Liga winners. Therefore, he’s willing to do everything possible, including taking a pay cut, to move to Barcelona.
During the meeting with Deco, Williams’ agent Félix Tainta informed him that his client will adapt sportingly, financially and personally at Barcelona.
Sport state ‘Arsenal are bidding hard’ for the Spain international and add that they have made a decisive move to try and secure his services. The Gunners are offering him a net annual salary of €9m, which neither Barca nor Athletic can match.
Mikel Arteta’s side are in the running with Bayern Munich, and both seem to be willing to pay his €62m release clause. The newspaper states Williams has ‘asked for time’ and wants to exhaust all options of joining Barcelona before considering other clubs.
Although Arsenal are bidding hard, they have to wait for Barcelona’s stance to find out if they can sign Williams.
