Over a month ago, Portuguese newspaper Record featured a story about how Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande was drawing interest from European clubs, with the likes of Arsenal and Juventus making approaches for him.
That piece claimed the Lions had the player ‘locked’ this summer, as he’d only leave the club if his €80m release clause is triggered.
It turns out that the very same Record is today back with a new story saying Dimonande ‘agitates the market’, once again claiming that Arsenal have made an approach for his signing.
The newspaper now writes that ‘some top clubs in Europe’ have been following the player’s evolution, and a ‘tempting offer’ could arrive this summer.
It continues to be said that when approached, Sporting claimed they’d only let Diomande go for €80m. Now when they start speaking of tempting offers, then that’s because the Lions may end up accepting less than that.
It’s not said whether it’s Arsenal who could make that kind of bid, but the Gunners are the only interested club named in the story. Mikel Arteta’s side seem to have strong interest in the player, as they already tried his signing in January.
