Arsenal and Aston Villa are keen on signing Atalanta star Mateo Retegui.
The striker has starred for the Serie A side this season, scoring 14 goals and registering four assists from 25 games.
On November 27th, we covered claims from Italy which stated Arsenal had sent a scout to watch the 25-year-old live in action against Young Boys in the Champions League. Aston Villa have now joined the Gunners in the chase for Retegui.
That’s according to La Repubblica, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, and they cover Arsenal and the Villans’ interest in the frontman.
The north London club and Unai Emery’s side are ‘serious’ about the Argentina-born Italy international, and the report adds the Premier League duo are ‘ready to offer’ €55m to secure his services.
It’s not clear whether Arsenal and Aston Villa are willing to submit bids for Retegui in this window or next summer. La Dea are leading the table, level on points with second placed Napoli, and taking this into account they are unlikely to let him leave in January.
Retegui picked up a hamstring injury against Empoli on December 22nd and has been on the sidelines since then.
