Arsenal are sniffing a bit harder’ for Jonathan David, according to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 20-year-old has been the standout performer for Gent this season, managing 23 goals and registering 10 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

He was largely deployed as an attacking midfielder, but can also operate as a second striker or a centre forward.

It’s claimed the Gunners have been following the Canada international ‘for months’ and have already held first talks with his agent, Nick Mavromaras.

HLN state the north London club and other suitors contacted the attacker’s representative to find out the conditions for signing his client.

Despite the transfer market being impacted due to the global health crisis, Gent general manager Michel Louwagie has already stressed a €25m offer will not be sufficient to take the player away from the club.

According to the report, the Jupiler Pro League club have not received any proposal from Mikel Arteta’s side or other suitors for David so far. His contract with Gent is until 2023.
