Sporting Club de Portugal manager Rúben Amorim has refused to rule out the chance of Gonçalo Inácio joining Liverpool and understands why they’d be interested in him.
O Jogo cover comments from the Sporting boss today as Liverpool continue to be linked with Inácio and a potential move in the last two weeks of the window.
Liverpool are yet to make any signings for new manager Arne Slot, having endured something of a difficult transfer window under the new regime in charge at Anfield.
They’ve already been turned down by Martin Zubimendi, while their efforts to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili have proven to be frustrating as Valencia continue to demand as much as €40m.
They’ve subsequently been linked with a move for Inácio, with central defence having proven to be a problem area last season and the departure of Joel Matip reducing Slot’s options in the position.
Inácio has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, having impressed at Sporting since making his debut in October 2020 and earned plenty of rave reviews from Premier League scouts, who are regularly in Portugal to watch talent.
Liverpool have regularly been named as potential suitors and Amorim can see why, praising the player today.
“A lot of news has already come out,” he said when asked about the rumours.
“I don’t know if there have been negotiations. Inácio will play tomorrow. He’s ready. Whatever happens in the market…
“We already have some experience; we know that our players are very attractive for the market. Until it closes, everything is possible. No more or less worried about waiting for the market to close.”
