Tottenham have been told by Inter Milan that they are willing to do a deal for Denzel Dumfries so long as it starts at €30m and rises from there.
That’s according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who covers Tottenham’s interest in the Dutch defender today and how he is currently a more viable option than Pedro Porro.
They explain that Antonio Conte is ‘on the hunt’ for a new signing to strengthen his Tottenham squad next month.
He particularly wants a new right back, with Emerson Royal failing to impress and Matt Doherty not seen as a long-term solution, while summer signing Djed Spence is yet to be given a real chance.
Several names are on the table as possible options, but Galetti says that an old transfer idea has ‘resurfaced’ for the Italian.
That is Denzel Dumfries, who Conte worked alongside at Inter Milan and has ‘never left the radar’ at Tottenham.
He is currently a more viable option than Sporting Club de Portugal’s Pedro Porro, who has also been linked in recent weeks, as the Portuguese are demanding that the defender’s release clause be met for a transfer to happen.
Inter, meanwhile, are ‘willing to negotiate’ a deal for Dumfries on the basis €30m and rising. In other words, they are happy to accept a €30m base fee plus bonuses.
That seems relatively low for Dumfries, who has been impressing in Italy and was a star performer for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar as well.
Indeed, numerous reports in Italy have made it clear that his asking price would be much higher than €30m, so Galetti’s valuation is very much at the lower end of the scale.
We’ll therefore have to take it with a pinch of salt for now but if Dumfries is cheaper than Porro, expect to see him and Tottenham linked more heavily in the coming weeks.
