French newspaper L’Equipe aren’t especially kind to Olivier Giroud on Wednesday, despite the striker improving his reputation in France this year.
Coming on late as a substitute for Arsenal against PSG on Tuesday night, Giroud picked up a booking for dissent and then maybe a harsh second yellow card, and subsequent red, after an obstruction on Marco Verratti led to the mildest of confrontations.
Giroud himself wasn’t happy and told Verratti he thought he went down too easily. The Arsenal player has been quoted by L’Equipe as saying: “Being already cautioned, I did not want to snap late in the game. It is true that I made a small obstruction on Verratti, but he throws himself to the ground. I told him: ‘What are you doing?'”
Marquinhos arrived to shove Giroud and then the referee produced two red cards, with Verratti the unluckier of the sent off pair.
