Derby County were linked with signing Nicklas Bentner during the summer. The player was available for free, having ended his contract with Wolfsburg, and receiving a pay off from the German club.

Without a club and with a reputation to rebuild, Bendtner was aiming for the Premier League. The striker’s son lives in London and playing football in England would enable Bendtner to see more of him, important for the footballer.

Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet report there was a meeting with an MLS club, and interest from Turkey, China and Mexico. Italian club Pescara were very keen, but Bendtner was more keen on England.

Hull City was a real option because manager Steve Bruce had Bendtner previously, and enjoyed some success, but when Bruce left that option was over. QPR pulled out of a deal due to rumours about the star’s private life, and Wolves had other targets.

Derby County’s interest was very real indeed say Ekstra Bladet, and they say the ‘ambitious’ club thought long about signing Bendtner. However, Nottingham Forest came in and got a deal done quite smoothly, signing the former Arsenal player up.

Ekstra Bladet say that Bendtner will be looking to improve his performances so he can get back to the Premier League, whichever way that may happen.
