Aston Villa midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo is today linked with a move to Fiorentina.
The claims were made by journalist Alfredo Pedulla, whose quotes on Passione Fiorentina were brought by Labaro Viola.
The pundit spent the show analysing Fiorentina’s transfer market, and when speaking of potential signings, Zaniolo’s name got a mention.
Since the Galatasaray loanee has been struggling to get a starting place at Aston Villa, it’s said La Viola could be a way out for him.
“I don’t rule it out, he’s always an obsession. It would be another triangulation, he can’t stay six months at a club going elsewhere. He’s still young, but he’s going towards 25,” said Pedulla.
“At Aston Villa he’s in and out, I don’t even know how ready he is. When you do the January market you always backtrack on goals you failed to achieve. Maybe then he goes to Arabia next summer. Zaniolo, however, I wouldn’t take him out of the loop 100%’.”
Zaniolo has made 23 appearances for Aston Villa this season, scoring two goals. There was a point in the season when Unai Emery gave him a starting place in the team, but that hasn’t happened in the past few weeks, as he’s often used in the final minutes of matches.
For him to move to Fiorentina, Aston Villa and Galatasaray would both need to agree to cut his loan spell short. It’s worth recalling that the Villans have a mandatory buying purchase depending on conditions, so maybe the Turkish side won’t want to give up on that possibility of a sale.
In addition to that, Zaniolo made an appearance for Galatasaray at the beginning of the season which could prevent a move to a third club in January.
