Brazil’s wish to have Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola in charge of the national team has always been huge.
Fans started this campaign back in 2012, when he left Barcelona, and there had always been some rumours about him taking the job at the Seleção.
It turns out that there were talks to take Guardiola from Manchester City to the Brazilian national team. That was revealed in an interview given by CBF vice-president Francisco Novelletto.
The official was interviewed by Radio Grenal, and claimed that three years ago, Brazil did make contact to have Guardiola as a replacement for Tite.
It’s said the Spaniard actually accepted the offer, and the problem was that they couldn’t afford his arrival.
“I’m speaking for Chico Novelletto, not for the CBF. About three years ago, there was a vice-president, a colleague of mine who was vice-president of the national team, who came into contact with Guardiola.
“The agent’s response was ‘all right, who wouldn’t want to train the Brazilian team? He accepts”. Now, (he) earns 24 million euros (at the time). The person who went after that information, as a possibility when Tite left, almost had a heart attack. He realised it and there’s no way,” said Novelletto (via O Globo).
It’s already confirmed that Tite will leave Brazil right after the World Cup, and the national team is still to sign his substitute.
Guardiola, however, is unlikely to be rumoured for the job, not only because of his contract with Manchester City, but also because people in charge of CBF continue to offer resistance regarding a foreign coach.
