Mike Penders was one of the goalkeepers to join Chelsea last summer.
The Premier League club reached an agreement with KRC Genk and let the stopper finish this season with them.
Saturday’s edition of Het Belang van Limburg published an interview with the 19-year-old, where he also talked about London.
The Belgium U19 international said he’s only visited London once, to sign the contract with Chelsea. He stated this when the newspaper pointed out the ‘contract couldn’t be greater’ between Uikhoven [Belgian city] to the English capital.
“I have only been to London once, that was to sign my contract. The city is of course very busy, but the training centre is in a quiet neighbourhood. Oh well, I adapt quickly to everything,” he said.
HBVL suggest the youngster may continue one more season on loan at the Belgian club.
Earlier this week, the Jupiler Pro League side’s technical director, Dimitri De Condé, stated he would like to retain the Chelsea player beyond this season. The Genk official also said the agreement will depend on the Blues.
When asked about his future, Penders explained: “All options are still open. First, the full focus will be on the play-offs, then we will sit around the table.”
The newspaper states Chelsea goalkeeping scout Ross Turnbull was recently at Genk’s home stadium to follow the player live in action. Penders also reveals he’s in contact with Blues goalkeeping co-ordinator, Ben Roberts.
“I also often get calls from Ben Roberts, with the head of the goalkeeper trainers I evaluate my matches,” he added.
