Earlier today, we covered claims made in Spain and France explaining news can be expected this week on Raphaël Varane’s move to Manchester United.
The Real Madrid star is on the front page of today’s Marca and within the report, it’s said ‘agreement is imminent’ for the defender’s transfer to Old Trafford.
Los Blancos are aware the 28-year-old has an agreement in principle with the Red Devils, and the club have been trying to get Madrid down on price.
However, Manchester United are now willing to meet the €50m asking price set by the La Liga side and Real Madrid setting the valuation ‘shows the predisposition of all parties to reach an agreement’.
The France international, whose contract expires in 2022, has returned to the club for training and doesn’t want to agitate for a move, even though he has no desire to sign an extension.
Varane’s willingness to leave and the duration left on his contract has seen the Spanish giants look to cash in from his sale and improve their finances in the current climate.
According to Marca, the two clubs first made direct contact yesterday and United took this step, ‘once there was evidence’ that Carlo Ancelotti’s side were willing to negotiate.
All parties involved in the operation want the deal to go through and with United taking the step to sign Varane, there’s confidence that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can complete the operation soon.
Marca’s report indicates United are close to sealing the deal for Varane, which could happen this week, and the former Lens man will be the Premier League side’s next big signing after Jadon Sancho.
