It’s hard to keep up during the transfer window at times, but we do our best, and it seems even some of the Italian press are receiving mixed information.
On Wednesday, Il Messaggero published an article suggesting that both Everton and Tottenham had seen bids accepted by Lazio for the transfer of Keita Baldé, but that the player had eventually turned them down as he hopes for a move to Juventus.
However, on Friday, the very same newspaper explain that Roberto Calenda, the player’s agent, is not aware of these bids, writing they were ‘unknown to him’.
The bids placed by Tottenham and Everton were claimed to have been around €30-35m, which is what Lazio are currently asking for their star forward despite him only having a year left on his contract.
Our question here is: how does a player who is on holiday in Las Vegas turn down Tottenham and Everton offers without his agent knowing of the existence of these bids?
Furthermore, were the player to refuse to sign a new contract and not get a transfer, the Italian outlet claim the club’s chairman, Claudio Lotito, is prepared to send him to the stands for the season as he runs down the last year of his contract.
In the space of 48 hours, we’ve gone from Everton and Tottenham seeing their bids apparently accepted and the player rejecting them to the agent being unaware of these bids.
Don’t you just love silly season?
