Following the recent reports from the Portuguese media regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, newspaper Record features an interesting piece on this case today.
According to the outlet, Lions’ manager Ruben Amorim asked the 22-year-old to stay at the club for one more year. The coach believes the player is crucial for the team and thinks he could hold his move to a top league for another season.
Record, however, points out that things are moving around the Tottenham target, and there’ll be busy days for his agent soon. Representative Jorge Chijane is set to arrive in Lisbon next week to discuss the midfielder’s future with Sporting. They’re set to talk about the ‘market solutions’ that have been showing up.
It’s pointed out that Spurs are one of the clubs who ‘promise’ to ‘materialise intentions’ for the player. The problem is that the price is the €60m of his release clause, and that’s seen by the London side as ‘high’.
Still, the Lions believe that a dialogue could increase the chances of an official offer.
We must recall that Tottenham have also been reportedly pursuing manager Ruben Amorim.
So if they do get the manager, the coach will certainly change his mind about Ugarte’s need of staying at Sporting for one more year.
