When Lewis Ferguson signed for Bologna from Aberdeen, a few eyebrows were raised, since it’s not every day a player goes from Scotland to Italy.
Aaron Hickey did it, sure, and it got him a move to Brentford, but the more natural progression would be to go to England, perhaps to a club like Watford.
Why do we mention the Hornets? That’s because they were brought up by the midfielder’s agent, Bill McMurdo, in a chat with Sport Italia, where the representative discussed his client’s past, present and future.
Having the time of his life in Italy, the midfielder only cost the Serie A side €3.5m, and yet he could have moved to Watford a year before if Aberdeen hadn’t been so greedy.
McMurdo explained: “Watford tried to sign him two years ago, but Aberdeen asked for a very high price at that time. Over £6m.”
That’s quite a lot of money, and considering he went to Italy for around half that amount a year or so later, perhaps it was wise of Watford not to succumb to the temptation.
Then again, with the player now being worth around €9-10m, as per McMurdo himself in the same interview, getting him now would be as expensive, if not more if his price continues to rise over the next few weeks.
