Martina Piemonte’s move to Everton this summer was a difficult one to get over the line, largely because of bureaucratic issues in England.
That’s according to her agent Claudia Romanelli, who has admitted to the difficulties involved in the transfer in a conversation with Zero Zero.
Piemonte joined Everton on a two-year deal in the summer, moving to the Women’s Super League from Italian side AC Milan.
She arrived in England with a big reputation from her time in Italy, where last season she managed 14 goals in 24 appearances and had narrowly missed out on the squad selected for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
She was Everton’s first signing of the summer as they looked to bolster their forward line and further consolidate themselves in mid-table after flirting with relegation last season.
As is the case in the men’s game, the deal was not an easy one to get over the line thanks to the bureaucratic issues now involved in signing players from European countries post Brexit.
That’s now firmly in the rearview mirror, though, and Romanelli is backing her client to be a hit at Everton moving forwards.
“Martina’s operation was a little more complex than others, due to the English bureaucratic system and the requests for certain conditions that must be respected in order to go and play in the Super League,” she said.
“Martina has all the physical and mental characteristics to do well. The company believes in her a lot, after an initial moment of settling in things go as they should.
“She is very sociable and loves to be able to question herself in order to demonstrate her value.”
