Adrian San Miguel left Liverpool this summer after his contract with the Reds expired. He was given the opportunity to remain at Anfield but at 37-years-of-age he wants to get as much football in as possible before the end of his career.
The free agent signed for Real Betis, which was a move motivated largely by the heart. Born in Seville, Adrian came through the ranks at the Spanish club before leaving for West Ham United in 2013.
That move to England changed his life, both professionally and personally. And now over a decade later he’s back at Betis as a completely different man.
Regarding his return from his West Ham and Liverpool adventures, Diario de Sevilla quote Adrian as saying: “I arrived in London single and I come here with three children. Opportunities return and I think it was time. We have always been in contact. I had to leave but I never stopped being here. It is very nice that our paths have been united again.”
Adrian explained that part of his reason for leaving Real Betis in the first place was how the club was being run at the time. That’s obviously more fan pleasing than simply saying he was attracted by Premier League football.
On rejecting the chance to continue at Liverpool, the goalkeeper said: “They understood that it was a personal and heartfelt decision. It was the moment and I was clear about it.”
