For the past few weeks, multiple claims from Italy have stated that Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is the target for Juventus in January.
It was also stated the 28-year-old is not pleased with his situation at the north London club where he’s been reduced to a substitute’s role.
The Denmark international was a regular at Tottenham until the end of last season but his situation changed after Ange Postecoglou’s arrival. The midfielder has come off the bench on seven occasions in the league and his only start this season came in the EFL Cup.
Speaking to the Danish press, relayed by Ekstra Bladet, Højbjerg has revealed that Spurs haven’t explained why he hasn’t received more game time under Postecoglou.
“I don’t have that dialogue, to be honest. My approach to it is to keep the focus on the things I can do something about. I have to be ready to help the team if I am called. So, I make sure to train well and keep my nose straight in track,” he said.
Postecoglou has favoured Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma as the first-choice midfield pair and the duo have impressed for Tottenham, who are unbeaten this season and are leading the table.
The former Southampton man has accepted his current situation and hailed Postecoglou’s work to transform Spurs.
“We are playing a new kind of football than we did last season, and we have got a new coaching team,” Højbjerg explained
“Things work really well. We are in a very good position in the league, even though it is only a short time into the season, and we are making really good progress.
“So, it’s all about keeping up. I haven’t played as much as I’ve been used to, but it’s also something you take with you and have to accept it and learn from.”
The Tottenham midfielder played the full 90 minutes in Denmark’s win over Kazakhstan and admitted that it was “great to be allowed to play and help the team”.
