Over the past few days, Brighton’s Matt O’Riley has been linked with a move to Atalanta.
Now, the noise around the Denmark international’s future seems to be growing and interest in him is also rising quickly.
Former Italy manager Fabio Capello spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about Atalanta’s transfer plans this summer and was asked how they can improve their midfield.
The veteran made it clear Brighton’s O’Riley could be a key signing for Ivan Juric.
He said, as relayed by TuttoAtalanta: “We need a serious alternative to De Roon in midfield, and for me the answer is called Matt O’Riley.
“Already linked to the Goddess [Atalanta] last year, then arriving at Brighton, he would be perfect for Juric. Quality and determination to spare, a natural leader.”
The Italian press don’t stop there when it comes to speculation about the 24-year-old.
Il Messaggero has more on him. They claim that Gian Piero Gasperini, who is now at AS Roma after an excellent stint at Atalanta, is interested in bringing the midfielder to the Stadio Olimpico.
The club’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has had transfer discussions with consultant Claudio Ranieri and O’Riley’s name has been discussed prominently.
The newspaper believe Brighton would be open to discussing the ex-Celtic player’s sale in the summer after he has failed to find his feet at the Amex during the 2024/25 season.
This could be a situation worth following, especially now that two clubs are interested in the player.
