Belgium international goalkeeper Matz Sels’ wish of joining Anderlecht on a permanent transfer could soon be a reality.
Newcastle United allowed the 26-year-old to spend the last season on loan with Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side. Anderlecht now want to secure his services on a permanent deal after he impressed for them in the 2017/18 campaign.
According to the Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad, Anderlecht “negotiated” with the Tyneside club for Sels on Monday. The two clubs and the player remain hopeful they can “complete the deal this week”.
The former Gent goalkeeper was initially included in Roberto Martinez’s 28-man provisional squad for the 2018 World Cup. However, Sels will not fly to Russia with his compatriots as he was left out of the 23-man squad.
Since Sels is not a part of Belgium squad for the World Cup, he wants his permanent transfer from Newcastle to Anderlecht to be sealed this week so that he can start training with the Jupiler Pro League club from next Monday.
