Scoring one of, if not the best goal of the weekend, Sofiane Boufal once again showed what he is capable of doing for Southampton in a moment of pure brilliance.
There is no denying the talent is there, even if it shows up rather sporadically, and that is why, even after a mediocre first season with the Premier League club, the Morocco international was desired by many club over the summer.
This is, at least, what the Southampton forward’s agent revealed to SFR Sport on Monday evening, asked about his client on Breaking Foot.
He said: “He feels great. He’s just waiting for more game time. You know, he didn’t start August as a first-team player, and we had clubs like Inter Milan, Celta Vigo and Fiorentina, clubs who know what they’re doing when it comes to signing players, who wanted him at all costs.
“Southampton said no, even if they weren’t playing him, and over the past three games, Sofiane is showing that he’s the one who’s winning them points”.
Asked if, because of his current situation, Boufal regretted choosing Southampton, Le Mée made it clear that wasn’t the case, and it was solely up to the player to convince his manager to start him more often.
Making that very clear with his celebration, running up to Mauricio Pellegrino following the goal and telling him, in his own way, he should probably be starting him more often, Boufal could see that decision backfire.
We’ll have to see come the next game, an away clash against Brighton next Sunday.
