With a contract expiring at the end of the season and a new deal yet to be signed, Faouzi Ghoulam’s situation at Napoli is attracting a lot of attention, notably from Liverpool.

Already hinted as a potential destination for the Algeria international over the summer, Jürgen Klopp’s side were recently said to have seen an effort to sign him knocked back by Napoli.

Currently in talks about a new contract, the delay is starting to worry the Serie A club and their fans a bit, with the release clause apparently the root of the issue.

A few weeks ago, it was reported Napoli wanted to include a €40m clause for rich clubs, like Chelsea and Liverpool, who were both linked at the time, and a €27m for less reputable sides.

However, Tuesday’s Corriere dello Sport state Ghoulam and his agents still haven’t said yes to what Napoli have offered, even if there is a certain optimism a deal will get done.

The Italian newspaper make it clear the left-back’s first port of call is Napoli, and a departure would only take place if there was a point of no return with the contract negotiations.

After all, who can blame him, with Napoli doing so well in Serie A, and a regular starting job with Champions League football.

Liverpool are certainly going to be keeping an eye on his situation, and so will we in order to bring you the latest news from Italy.
