Manchester United’s interest in Pietro Pellegri is nothing new, and Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday want you to know all about it.
It all started in December 2016, when the Genoa forward made his debut for the Serie A side, equalling the league record for the youngster player at 15 years, nine months and six days of age.
At the time, the very same newspaper claimed both the Red Devils and Chelsea had been tracking his progress, and that hasn’t changed.
Fast forward to March, when Pellegri signed his first professional contract with Genoa, keeping him there until at least 2019, causing the rumours to dissipate a bit, but they’re back with a bang.
The reason behind this happens to be the fact the 16-year-old bagged two goals at the weekend against Lazio despite only featuring for 57 minutes.
Today’s edition of the newspaper state Genoa’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the game, with the likes of Inter, AC Milan and Juventus all intrigued about this Italian prospect, yet they do face competition from the Premier League.
Of course, Manchester United are the ones mentioned, and it doesn’t help that his agent happens to be in England these days.
That doesn’t mean he’s there to talk specifically about Pellegri, or with Manchester United, considering he has other clients of interest to clubs on our shores, such as Jakub Jankto and Andrea Petagna, but it certainly is handy for the Red Devils.
We’ll have to see what comes of this, but don’t be surprised if this reappears time and time again over the course of the season, or, at least, every time the 16-year-old prodigy puts the ball in the back of the net.
