From Poland: Middlesbrough trying to sign Cernych for months, why they can now have him

 

On Monday, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy about Middlesbrough and Fedor Cernych.

Middlesbrough, according to the claims, were set to place an offer of €1m for the forward, and that could see the deal closed in the coming hours. As explained at the time, when the European media refer to coming hours it generally means something should happen soon, rather than literally in the next few hours.

Over in Poland the claims have caused a stir. Przegląd Sportowy point out it follows on from their own claims earlier this year that Cernych was a step away from Middlesbrough.

It’s claimed the player’s current club Jagiellonia Bialystok were contacted two months ago by Middlesbrough about a transfer, but at that stage the Polish side were refusing approaches for all players, hoping they could clinch European football.

That dream is now dead, with Jagiellonia knocked out in the Europa League qualifying rounds, and that’s why Middlesbrough would now get a more positive answer.

Whether things are quite as close as TMW claim, remains to be seen.
