The transfer window is a great time for many people to get out there and make predictions, which, if it turns out to actually happen, will end with them claiming some sort of victory and becoming relevant.

The Italian press like to ask agents and old managers what they think will happen during the next few weeks, and Corriere dello Sport have done just that on Monday.

One of the men quizzed happens to be 75-year-old manager Giovanni Galeone, whose last job in football dates back to the 2006-07 season when he took over at Udinese for a brief few months.

He said: “Higuain has agreed terms with Juventus, he wants to go up a level and now is the time to do this. Pogba will go to Manchester with Mourinho. Matic, Biglia and especially Mascherano are the only ones who can replace him.”

Mr Galeone seems rather certain of his predictions, and fair play to him, but the last time he made such a big claim, he was quite far off the mark.

Back in February, the 75-year-old told Radio Radio in Italy that Massimiliano Allegri would ‘leave Italy’ to go to England ‘because the proposal offered by Roman Abramovich is really fantastic’.

A few months later, and Max Allegri is still Juventus manager, and Chelsea’s new man in charge is Antonio Conte.

Everybody makes mistakes, and perhaps the London club did offer the Italian manager a very good contract.

As for the Pogba to Manchester United claim, we’ll have to wait and see, but we just wanted to clarify where it came from before anyone else jumps on the bandwagon and gets excited about what Mr Galeone has to say about the transfer.
