Genoa have positioned themselves to sign Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana in the winter market.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who states the Serie A side are looking to improve their attack and have several names on their list.
This includes the Southampton player and FC Porto’s Gonçalo Borges, and the Serie A side will find it difficult to sign Borges.
Genoa manager Patrick Vieira doesn’t have enough options in attack and is looking for a player to fit in his 4-3-3 system. The Italian club believe Sulemana and the Porto player could be ‘perfect’ under the Frenchman’s orders.
Di Marzio claims they have identified the Ghana international as their ‘favourite’ target. Genoa haven’t yet made an official offer for the 22-year-old but since both the club and manager are in favour of this transfer, they could table a proposal soon.
Last summer, Sulemana came close to joining Ajax, who agreed a deal with Southampton, but the transfer collapsed due to bureaucratic issues. He returned to St Mary’s and has made 11 appearances this season, which includes two starts.
A move to Genoa could help the 22-year-old feature regularly, while Ajax director Alex Kroes stated last month that they are still interested in Sulemana.
