Erol Bulut has revealed to the Turkish media that he wanted to sign Fenerbahce attacker Oğuz Aydın when he was Cardiff City manager.

Bulut was released by the Championship side in September after a poor start to the season.

T24 have covered comments the former Cardiff City man has made to Bein Sports this week in which he confirmed he wanted to sign Aydın before the winger joined Fenerbahce from Alanyaspor in the summer.

The 49-year-old said the player has a lot of quality and that playing under Jose Mourinho has brought out the best in the youngster. Bulut believes the 24-year-old will go on to become a key player for the Super Lig side in the coming years.

“I was also interested in Oğuz Aydın, but it was not possible. Oğuz is a player I like. He scores goals and provides assists. He may not have played in the first few weeks, but Jose Mourinho showed what he can do when given him the chance. He’s a very quality player. I think he can contribute to Fenerbahçe for many years,” said the former Cardiff City boss.

Bulut arrived at Cardiff City 2023 and in his first season with the Welsh side he guided them to mid-table in the Championship.

During the summer the Turkish coach signed a contract extension with the club, but after picking up just one point in the opening six games this season, he was sacked by the Cardiff City hierarchy.
