Luis Díaz has starred for Liverpool by scoring a hat-trick in their 4-0 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week.
The forward has scored nine goals and registered two assists from 15 games this season.
Last year, his father had stated Barcelona are his dream team. The La Liga side wanted to sign the 27-year-old in the summer window, but no deal took shape.
Back in June, claims had suggested Díaz is unlikely to be a key player under Arne Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp in the summer. This led to reports of the Catalan club’s desire to sign him.
Friday’s edition of Sport points out the summer interest shown by Barca in the Colombia international.
It’s claimed he was ‘about to leave’ the Reds, before deciding to continue at Anfield. It’s to be noted the Merseyside club were firm in the summer they won’t make it easy for him to leave.
The former FC Porto man was initially not clear whether he would have a major role under Slot. This is when Hansi Flick’s side emerged as an option.
Díaz ended up staying at Liverpool and his decision has clearly paid off. He’s a key player under the Dutchman and is currently the joint top scorer this season along with Mohamed Salah.
Sport claim Díaz has become a ‘killer’ under Slot and ‘it will be difficult to get him’ out of Anfield. The player and Liverpool would be thrilled not to part ways in the last window.
