FC Nordsjælland’s Daniel Svensson was linked with a move to Liverpool towards the end of the summer window.

The 22-year-old is currently at the Sweden camp, after receiving a late call up for the two UEFA Nations League fixtures this month.

This allowed Fotbollskanalen to have a chat with Svensson, and they asked him about the reports linking him to Liverpool, Juventus and OGC Nice.

“Great fun, of course. It’s a sign that I’m doing something right and performing well. I just take it as fuel to run on. It was obviously a bit surreal. It was perhaps not entirely expected that I would get to read about it,” he said.

The defender has now revealed that he was told that Liverpool have been following him.

“I don’t know much about it. I only know that they watched some matches and such. More than that I don’t know,” Svensson explained.

He joined the Danish club from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna in 2020 and has mainly been used as a left-back and a midfielder. Svensson has also been used in other positions in the back four and also as a defensive midfielder.

The Swede has made 145 appearances in all competitions for Nordsjælland and his deal with them lasts until 2027. Despite this, he insists a transfer could be on the cards, most likely in 2025.

“I’m in the fifth season now. The idea is that I will move on relatively soon anyway. It’s certainly not impossible [January exit], but it might happen that I play the whole season and then move on,” he added.

“The club has said that they want to keep certain players for the rest of the season, and I seem to be one of those players. It is likely that I will stay for the rest of the season.”

Svensson has spent his playing career in Sweden and Denmark, but the versatile player now insists he’s ready to make a jump to a top league.

“Yes, I know that. I have played many seasons in Denmark and especially towards the end it has gone well. I’m absolutely ready,” Svensson stressed.

It needs to be seen whether Liverpool will try and take necessary steps to sign the Swede in the future.
