Club guaranteed ‘juicy payment’ from Arsenal transfer – Biggest they’ve received

Osasuna are set to receive a ‘juicy payment’ from FIFA as part of Mikel Merino’s move to Arsenal from Real Sociedad.

That’s according to Diario de Navarra, who report that the Spanish side will be receiving €1.17m thanks to the midfielder’s move to Arsenal.

They explain that the payment will be made through FIFA, who have taken control of the matter after it was previously left to clubs to deal with.

They now control and automatically pay out fees via their solidarity mechanism, which pays out 5% of any transfer fee between the clubs that trained a footballer between the ages of 12 and 23.

Osasuna have been handed 3.5% of the $33.5m Arsenal paid Real Sociedad for Merino after he spent several years with them before heading to Borussia Dortmund.

The fee will be the largest amount Osasuna have ever received via the solidarity scheme, beating the €800,000 they received from Javi Martinez’s move to Bayern Munich in 2012.

They have also received a fee for Merino in the past after his moves to Newcastle and Real Sociedad although they were ‘not as significant an amount’ as the one relating to his move to Arsenal.
