It’s always nice when agents, instead of talking their clients out of clubs, explain how happy they are and how others were rejected in favour of where the player is now.

This is the case with Caleb Okoli and his agent Alessandro Barison.

Okoli signed for Leicester City in early July, leaving Atalanta after a series of loans. The 23-year-old had been with La Dea since 2016, going on loan to SPAL, Cremonese and Frosinone.

At the third of the trio, where he spent last season, the defender made 37 appearances. He’s already played three games for Leicester City and that saw him called up to the Italy national team for the last break.

Unfortunately he didn’t manage to get off the bench but it’s a good sign for the future.

Barison has been speaking to SportItalia about his client’s progress, and when asked if clubs other than the Foxes had been keen, he said: “Someone from the Bundesliga, then French teams and even some Italian ones. But when Leicester came along he said to me: “It’s my moment”. He wanted the Premier League, which has always been his dream, even if he was happy to see that he also had a chance for Italy or Germany.”

Asked how Okoli can continue to grow, the agent said: “The Premier League is a good testing ground where he can accumulate knowledge and where he can only improve. There are many players of a certain calibre, technically skilled and fast. He will have to be ready and be increasingly on the ball to know where the ball and the players are going. It is a faster football, also in terms of ball circulation and the defenders have to anticipate the play.”

The agent shared a little disappointment that Okoli wasn’t able to make his Italy debut, although there’s hope that could happen in October.
