Either West Brom’s interest in Ignacio Camacho is now history, or the Baggies don’t have that much money to spend this summer, but Malaga’s director of football seems to think the defensive midfielder could stay with them next season.
After all, Camacho himself said contract talks with Malaga about a renewal had stalled, and he was open to a move in the future.
However, on Wednesday, Plaza Deportiva report claims from Francesc Arnau, Malaga’s DoF, regarding a transfer for Camacho, stating he didn’t know if teams ‘could match the player’s release clause’ for him to leave La Rosaleda in the summer.
Considering his release clause currently stands at somewhere in between €18-20m (depending on reports), we find it hard to believe West Brom would struggle to spend £15-17m on a player in the summer.
Valencia, on the other hand, who are the other club said to be interested, might find it more difficult, but, as things stand, Arnau claims he hasn’t heard anything from them.
This means West Brom have a clear route to Camacho, but with Pulis also seemingly keeping an eye on Sporting CP’s William Carvalho, he could end up shelling out for the Portuguese defensive midfielder instead.
