Kepa Arrizabalaga wants to make a ‘mini soap opera’ of his future this summer and hopes to get back to Real Madrid after his loan spell there last season.
That’s according to Bernabeu Digital, who say the summer market should prove to be a ‘complicated’ one for the Chelsea outcast.
They report that Kepa ‘aims to be one of the small soap operas’ opening up ahead of Real Madrid in the coming weeks.
The Basque goalkeeper felt completely comfortable at the Santiago Bernabéu last season after growing unhappy at Chelsea, where he’d been pushed down the pecking order.
He was close to Bayern Munich but instead joined Real Madrid on loan at the last minute, fulfilling a career dream.
The goalkeeper would love to return despite ultimately falling out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti last season when the Italian ended up preferring Andriy Lunin as the replacement for Thibaut Courtois.
Several things have to fall into place for that to happen, though. The first would be for Lunin to ask to leave, which is yet to happen despite him not signing a new contract.
Kepa may be forced to wait for that decision to be made, potentially seeing other options fall by the wayside. If he waits until August, he runs the risk of being left at Chelsea and sitting in the stands next season.
It’s a risk he’s running at this moment in time, seemingly hoping Lunin decides to leave and opens the door to a return to Real Madrid.
