Ruud van Nistelrooy has spoken to Burnley about their vacant managerial position but has ‘other irons in the fire’ too.

That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, who report that the Burnley job is a potential option for the former PSV Eindhoven boss.

The newspaper explains that Van Nistelrooy ‘has spoken with Burnley’ as they continue their hunt for a new manager following Vincent Kompany’s move to Bayern Munich.

He is very much in the picture at Turf Moor but there is no deal in place yet and it’s been a while since discussions took place with the Championship club.

Van Nistelrooy has been out of work since leaving PSV 13 months ago and wants to be careful about his next job, taking the opportunity to keep his ear to the ground and consider several options.

There are plenty of options on the table for him too and Burnley are one of them as they would like to work with a big name after Kompany. Van Nistelrooy would fit the bill after the reputation he earned during his playing career.

He is very much open to the possibility of taking charge at Turf Moor but those in Burnley haven’t spoken to him in a while according to sources.

He has ‘other irons in the fire’, though, so the Clarets need to move sooner rather than later if they are keen on making him Kompany’s successor.
