Tottenham were ‘convinced’ about signing player ‘a few weeks ago’ – Now Spurs aren’t so sure

As Italian outlet Calcio Mercato today writes about the future of Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno, they have some interesting information about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the player.

First of all, it’s highlighted that the Turin side should be receiving some offers for the 24-year-old this summer, as the likes of AC Milan and Napoli are both keen on his signing.

Regarding Tottenham, it’s claimed that ‘a few weeks ago’, Spurs had actually been ‘convinced’ to go after Buongiorno. However, the London side’s plans have changed, and their pursuit has ‘cooled down’ a little.

That ends up being good news for the Italian sides, who may now not have English competition for the signing. Torino are expected to demand €30m for his transfer, and some ‘counterparts’ could end up being included in a deal with other Serie A clubs.

Tottenham had been linked to Buongiorno since December 2023, although they obviously made an investment to get Radu Dragusin signed from Genoa back in the January window. Now the need for a new centre-back may depend on their confidence in the Romanian player.
