Tottenham may be wise to abandon any efforts to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club Bilbao this summer, as he has no intention of leaving the Basque club.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say his entourage have worked out a plan for the future with the player and his family that doesn’t involve moving to Tottenham or any other club anytime soon.
The newspaper explains that while Williams is busy celebrating their Copa del Rey success with the rest of his teammates, those higher up the club are focused on his future.
They’re relatively comfortable after signing the striker to a new deal until 2027 three months ago but they are aware of the growing interest in the forward as he continues to shine in Spain.
Tottenham are one of those believed to be showing an interest in him, with a recent report indicating they were trying to tempt him away.
Estadio say that might a pointless exercise, though, as sources around the player insist he has a plan with his entourage and family for his future.
They’ve drawn up a roadmap that will see him stay at the club next season and lead them in Europe, and hopefully the Champions League if they are lucky.
He is in no hurry to leave San Mamés and him staying at the club next season is ‘practically assured’ at this point. Williams will consider a future move away when he and his team consider the time is right.
That won’t be this summer, though, as he’s more than happy where he is and isn’t really considering the interest from Tottenham or anyone else.
