Liverpool are not thinking about renewing Thiago’s contract in the summer, and he’s expecting a bid from Saudi Arabia.
That’s according to journalist Jorge C. Picón and Diego Otero Fontán, who cover the Spanish midfielder’s uncertain future today.
They explain that the midfielder’s persistent injury problems this season mean Liverpool are planning for life without him and will not give him a contract extension as a result.
Thiago’s hip injury has become a ‘headache’ for all involved.
His current deal expires in the summer and believe that they are well stocked when it comes to midfielders, with Alexis MacAllister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and even Stefan Bajcetic ahead of him.
Thiago, for his part, is recovering from his latest injury with a personal physiotherapist in Spain and hopes to play on for a few more years, albeit away from Anfield.
His entourage are expecting an offer to arrive from Saudi Arabia, with the idea being he’d sign one last big contract before retiring. Several of his former teammates, including from Liverpool, already play there.
There is also the possibility of a move to the Persian Gulf, namely Qatar, because his brother Rafinha plays in the country from Al-Arabi and Thiago has visited several times. He’s yet to receive an offer from either destination, though.
For now the focus is on getting fit and ensuring there will be no relapse of his injury issues at Liverpool, which have seemingly led the Reds to decide to let him go when his contract expires in the summer.
