Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has expressed his desire to represent Argentina at the Paris Olympics in the summer.
The centre-back is currently with the Argentina squad and it gave him a chance to have a chat with TyC Sports on a few topics, including his wish to make it to the Olympics. Olé has relayed his comments.
Romero, who won the World Cup with La Albiceleste, is aware that Tottenham will also have a say in it.
“I never had the chance to be in the Olympic Games and I would love to. Obviously, it doesn’t depend on me, but if you want to take me I am available for the Argentine national team,” he said.
“I continue with the same enthusiasm and desire as always to continue doing things well at the club to continue having the possibility of being here.”
Olé then question whether the 25-year-old has a real chance of representing his country in Paris.
Javier Mascherano is in charge of the Argentina U23 side and can include three players from the senior team in the squad for the Olympics.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has been speaking to the former Liverpool man about selecting some of his players.
The Olympics will kick-start on July 26th and will go until August 11th, but Clarín state clubs have no obligation to release their players and therefore, the pressure they will put on their clubs will be key for them.
This won’t be easy because the defender will represent Argentina at the Copa América 2024, which will take place between June 20th and July 14th in the United States.
Romero’s work load will further increased if he were to go to Paris, and if he continues to insist, Tottenham could be heading for a battle with him.
