On Friday, the Italian media highlighted Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar.
Following initial claims about Wolves’ chase, it was now said they watched the player at least twice, and could take advantage of the Giallorossi’s financial situation to get a summer deal.
Roma didn’t spend anything to sign Svilar from Benfica in the summer of 2022, and interviewed by Sky Italia (via Gianluca Di Marzio), their director Tiago Pinto now admits he could turn into a big profit for them.
The club chief had been talking about the assets they have, and pointed out that the Wolves target could be worth many millions.
“I am proud to have taken three players on a zero-fee basis who could perhaps be worth €100m today: Svilar, Ndicka and Aouar. Despite all the limitations we had, and many things that I may have done wrong, today you look at Roma and there are players taken for free that have value on the market.”
He pointed out that despite other big signings he made, he feels something special about Svilar’s free arrival at the club.
“I was happy when we got Dybala. However, without being egocentric, I am happy with the moment Svilar is having. I arrived at Benfica in May 2017, he on 28 August 2017. We did the route at Benfica together, then he came here. He suffered a lot too, he has grown so much and will be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I am happy for him.”
Right now, the goalkeeper is only valued by Transfermarkt at €4m, but it’s clear that the transfer market could make him more expensive, and even Pinto is expecting that. So it will be up to Wolves to put a convincing bid on the table.
