Aston Villa’s Alex Moreno has left the door open to a possible return to Real Betis, even revealing he’s in contact with players and staff at his former club.
Estadio Deportivo cover comments from the full-back today, in which he made it clear he’s very much open to the idea of moving back to Betis in the future.
The 30-year-old spent four years at Betis between 2019 and 2023, joining the club in a €9.7m deal from Rayo Vallecano before departing for Aston Villa in January 2023.
His move away from the Spanish side was an emotional one, with Moreno making it clear at the time that he was leaving Betis for Aston Villa with a heavy heart.
He’s been a regular for the Villans since and is tied to the club until 2026, meaning a move away in the near future seems unlikely, even with Lucas Digne shining this season.
“It cost me a lot because I love Betis, I love the fans, I love the city and it was a very complicated decision to make, but I’m sure that one day we will meet again,” he said.
“I don’t miss a single game. I have the Spanish channels so I can try to live a little day to day. I don’t miss a single game.
“Right now, I am talking a lot with Germán Pezzella, I have been talking well with Guido (Rodriguez), asking him how the injury was, he has also talked a lot with Édgar, who is now at Almería. With Marc Bartra. I usually talk to several, depending a little on the moment.
“With the physios, with a lot of people from the club too, I have a lot of contact with them, and with the kit players. Many people that I have left there, and I have a lot of love for them.
“And surely now, when we have the break, I am going to go down, I am going to try to see them, go there to visit them, to disconnect a little at that moment.”
