As Newcastle United fans might recall, there was a moment in their Champions League games against AC Milan this season when it looked like the Magpies were going to score, but Fikayo Tomori got in the way.
The defender managed to block a shot from Miguel Almiron and was then able to clear the ball before it crossed the line in a very impressive feat.
This was recalled by the player in a chat with Milan TV, relayed by Milan News, where they asked him about his ability to be the last man of defence, with the Newcastle moment springing to mind almost immediately.
“I tried to put my foot to catch the ball first, and in the end I hit it the moment Almiron hit it. I was just trying to put a body part in to save the situation. Then we managed to win the game and that’s the most important thing.”
That was the 2-1 win at St James’ Park for AC Milan, who were previously unable to beat Newcastle at the San Siro.
Unlike the Magpies, Milan were able to continue in Europe, albeit in the Europa League, where they eliminated Rennes, and will now face Slavia Prague in the round of 16.
Tomori has been key for the Serie A side ever since he joined them on loan from Chelsea before being bought permanently, making 130 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
