Unable to get the game time he was looking for at West Ham United, Thilo Kehrer sought it elsewhere and was eventually loaned to AS Monaco.
This is second spell in Ligue 1, as the player has previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, whom the Hammers bought him in 2022 for €12m.
His time at West Ham would be short lived, however, with the move to AS Monaco coming 18 months later, and the Germany international has spoken to Nice-Matin about his adaptation since January 5th.
He said: “I’m satisfied. We had to adapt because of injuries and suspensions. I’ve filled in at right-back and left-back. The plan before I came here was to play in the centre of a three-man defence. I can play in different positions, that’s well known.
“I’m strongest in the centre, but when the position changes, it’s a bit more difficult. I’m not saying that I wasn’t at my best, but in certain situations I lacked a bit of rhythm and automatism. Of course, when you play several matches in the same position, it helps you to get your bearings and anticipate things properly.”
The player’s versatility has always been a blessing and a curse for the 27-year-old, who has always been the one to be moved around the backline over his career.
As for a return to West Ham in the summer, it will all depend on the principality side, as they have an option to buy him and make the move permanently if they so desire.
Since joining AS Monaco from West Ham, the centre-back has made eight appearances in all competitions after making 12 for the Hammers in the first half of the campaign.
